This paper presents a comparative study about the development of a network based laboratory environment in the “Unix introduction” course for the undergraduate students. The study results and the response from the students from 2005 to 2006 will be used to better understand what kind of method is more suitable for students. We also use the data collected to adjust our teaching strategy and try to build up a network based laboratory environment.
